• Abstract
  The article analyses the vast array of social relations existing around the San Rocco complex (1550-1650c.). The church of San Rocco boasts the uniqueness of being both the confraternal church of the homonymous scuola grande and the house of the relics of its titular saint. Therefore, the nature of the social connections built and consolidated around the church was rooted in both the scuola affiliation and specific cult activities. My study reveals a wide variety of actors involved, men and women from different social backgrounds, who intertwined complex relationships with the confraternity, the church and its clergy. All the same, the work shows how the Scuola Grande di San Rocco itself preserved the devotional appeal of the affiliated church, limiting as much as possible the personal affirmation practices of the various actors involved in the scuola grande.
